Shops We Love: vintage fine Objects
As a veteran antiques dealer and stylist, vintage fine Objects owner Kevin Austin has honed his design sensibility to one easy criterion: “I choose things that I would want to live with,” he says. At his store, he makes those thoroughly selected items available to all.
Kevin isn’t scared to mix eras and styles, placing ornate Swedish gilt candlesticks atop campaign dressers and displaying bright orange art glass on a mahogany étagère. “It creates a fantastic tension,” he says. His deft mixing of wood tones is especially obvious in the range of natural patinas and grains scattered around the store. Bamboo plays a supporting role in the form of stools, chairs and tables, numerous painted in retro palm beach hues. Objects are artfully color-blocked, and tabletops are clear of cluttering trinkets. “This way the piece can speak for itself,” says Austin.
